Sinéad McCooleBooks

Books 1996 - 1998

The subject of her Master thesis, The Laverys and their Bookcover: Hazel, A Life of Lady Lavery role in the emergence of the Irish Free State, was expanded and popularised as Hazel, A Life of Lady Lavery (Lilliput Press, 1996), which became an Irish best seller. Sinéad conceived the idea of an exhibition to coincide with the publication of her book and was curator of the highly-acclaimed exhibition, Lady Lavery Society and Politics, at the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery of Modern Art Dublin (September-November 1996). She was the scriptwriter for Who is She?, a television documentary on Lady Lavery for RTE (Broadcast on all European networks during 1997).

In 1997 her book Guns and Chiffon, Women Revolutionaries and Kilmainham Gaol was Bookcover: Guns and Chiffon published to accompany an exhibition Guns and Chiffon in Kilmainham Gaol. Once again, this was Sinéad’s original concept. The following year, the exhibition travelled to a number of Irish venues as well as to the Irish-American Museum, Albany, New York, (March 1998) and Hofstra University, Long Island, New York (Summer 1998).
